Episode 163: This Beat Is Dope #15
I don't know if it was from this particular site or not, but I actually seriously tried this once. Don't judge me too hard, though... I was maybe 14 or 15 and I didn't pay for it.
My friend told me about this cool thing that would make you experience weird stuff through the power of sound!!1! He gave me a burned CD and I could not wait to get home from school and try it. Why not, right?
I guess I was "doing it wrong" because after a minute or so I realized nothing was going to happen. It really is just a bunch of wub wubs and bleeps. I laid there in the dark, trying my best to concentrate. Shockingly, nothing happened and I felt really stupid. At the time it sounded like something that could really be possible (again, this was over 10 years ago don't judge me) My friend and I didn't talk about it at school the next day, so I'm pretty sure he had the same experience. You really have to be in so much denial to think this actually does something to you.
I haven't thought about this in years. I can't believe it still exists and people are profiting from it. Also, what are these weirdos doing to afford $200 sound files and magic crystals and fairy dust?

Same, I tried it when I was around 14 and it did nothing for me (I wonder why!!!). And this was when I was 14 and had an open mind about stupid shit! Maybe the problem was that I went into it thinking "I wonder if this works?" and not "I believe this will definitely work"

Actually one thing I saw on the I-Doser forums that wasn't brought up in the episode (as far as I can remember) was that there were a lot of stories where people said things like "yeah so I took a bunch of shrooms then listened to this I-Dose and it totally worked!! Amazing!!" That would explain a lot

If anyone cares what those actually sound like... WEED!

I was trying to figure out what this noise reminded me of, and I just remembered that it sounds a lot like the beginning of Metronome Arthritis by the band At The Drive-In.

So basically, this is a lot like Omar Rodriguez-Lopez fucking around with an effect pedal for an hour.

For some reason I was expecting this to be someone playing dubstep through so many filters it sounds like a cassette being chewed out whilst a dot-matrix printer jams.

What I'm saying is I am some how glad to be proven wrong but at the same time this is even more confusing!

I was hoping Hand of God would make you feel like Diego Maradona but I guess that's what Cocaine is for...

This is one of those eps where you read the description and already know it's going to be an instant classic. Every time I think the internet has run out of stupid things to force themselves to believe in, along comes digital jenkem mp3s.

Shit, I could make abstract binaural-gimmick nonsense tracks and sell them for a hundred bucks. All I'd need to do is feed people the same bullshit writeups that were featured on this episode!

If they do, that audio file better be like 16 hours long.

When I was in college, someone linked me to an mp3 file that was maybe 15-ish minutes long, and the claim was that it could give you a ~hands-free orgasm~. I actually listened to it because two different people said it worked, and I wanted to call bullshit.  Initially, I was confused as fuck, because the first ten minutes are just this lady doing a standard hypnosis "relax and go to sleep" deal. I was almost convinced I had the wrong mp3, but then she started talking sexy and it made more sense. The whole audio file had binaural beats in the background, which damn near put me to sleep, but it obviously didn't "work".

It would still be more likely to give someone a boner than the I-Doser viagra track, because it actually used words, which are generally sexier than bleep-blorp noises. Like a downloadable fluffer, maybe. Although this does make me want to go digging for that lady again, just in case there's a market for another hypnosis doc. It would have less PUA-style NLP and more Hypnotic Bratty Princess Miss Hollywood.

That was actually my first encounter with the idea of Financial Domination, but with the added hilarity of the lady making a for-purchase hypnosis audio file that was basically, "you pay me for something that subconsciously compels you to give me money".

I knew someone who used to listen to this stuff, though they were called 'binaural beats' at the time (still are maybe?? Maybe I Doser is just a brand version of this??) and she claimed that they worked for her. After asking her some questions about the experience, I realized that she was literally slipping into a meditative trance, which was something she had been practicing for years, but using weird screechy playback noises as white noise to help her focus inward. I sort of wanted to tell her to please credit her self for all the practice she put into learning to meditate, not the pretty gross sounding meditation aid.

Basically its pretty easy to achieve a weird 'ok I feel kind of dizzy and things look weird' state by going into a heavy focus and controlling your breathing and focusing intently on keeping your mind blank which is WOW EVERYTHING THEY TELL YOU TO DO IN THESE FORUMS BUT YEAH, YOU'LL ACHIEVE A MEDITATIVE TRANCE BY DOING THESE THINGS WITHOUT THE BLEEP BLOOPS, sad day really

I remember being 16 and trying these, despite the fact that we had access to almost all the drugs we were trying.

We managed to find a torrent and try it in the school library and had that "Naw bro I think like, aw I felt something dude." moment. It's weird to see that they went from "this will probably simulate some aspects of the drug" to just full on insane-bullshit speak.

Isabella Valentine is the person you're thinking of. Sadly, most of her most ridiculously ham-handed "brainwashing" stuff has gone the way of the dodo, but she's still around, peddling the binaural ~hypnoslavery~ bullshit.

Coincidentally, I found a Livejournal post accusing her of being "immoral" and causing "long term psychological damage" yesterday.

Is one of the side effects of drugs severe annoyance? Cause that's the only thing I'm getting while listening to this shit.
