I wouldn't rule it out. It's a logistical issue to figure out, and I'm not certain how it could be done just yet, but i can give you a definite maybe.

How dare you people live in the center of the country. I'm trying to figure out if I can make it. I enjoy occasionally dropping everything for a weekend away, but generally for me that means a road trip. I know I'm going to be crazy busy in October, so I'd fly for sure. Anyone else coming from afar?

I really, really want to go, but I'd have to fly (I live in Louisiana and that kinda road trip sounds brutal).  I'm absolutely terrified of flying.  I know I'm gonna have to fly anyway for my job someday, though, so maybe this would be a good first step??

Do it, fly in a plane. That particular flight shouldn't be terribly long, you can just put on soft music and read or sleep. Literally the worst thing that can happen is a small child craps his pants in the row in front of you, and you get sick and blame him and that visit to Guayaquil isn't stupendous but you'll go back one day. You will.
