nutshell of wisdom, what is the best slasher movie to show someone who is new to them?

Hmm, I'll be honest, slasher is not my favorite subgenre of horror movie, but I'll give it a go. Do they like older movies? Hard to go wrong with the first Halloween. If they're more into modern stuff and don't mind subtitles, Cold Prey is a solid modern slasher. If they prefer funny stuff, Tucker and Dale v.s Evil is great. If they like stuff with a supernatural bent, Candyman is really good. I tend to stay away from the super grim ones, but if that's your jam I've heard good things about Wolf Creek and the French movie Inside. My favorite slasher type movie is actually Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, but that's got a ton of in-jokes about horror movies and slashers in particular that a newcomer might not get. Slashers tend to be a lot more gory than other horror subgenres, so let your friend know that up front.
