Also this is the second time in two days I've seen someone trying to make money by being a DM (Thank you grognards.txt), I'm sorry people but it's not gonna happen!
KingKalamari, February 05, 2014, 05:53:23 pm
But you can't put 'I get paid for my passion' before 'I'm good at my passion'. I've seen that all the time with interviews with people online. "What's your advice for starting out?" is invariably "spend two or three or more years making things without expecting any return". There's more than one reason for that, too--first, you have to become good at what you want to do. No one's going to support someone who can't do something good yet. Second, you have to want to do it for yourself. If you don't really want to do it, if you don't really want to spend years at it before you get even slightly noticed, then you won't be able to stick with it.This, this, a thousand times this. In most any field, whether you want to make money from your work or not, you're going to have to work for some length of time before coming in to any sort of recognition. No matter if it's two months, two years, or twenty years, it's going to seem even more awful than it is if you begin with the expectation of immediate success. Work is just that, work. That doesn't mean you can't try and get some support, monetary or otherwise, from people while you're struggling through the muck. Just don't expect things to fall into your lap!

I doubt it's as insidious as capitalizing on the Girl GM aspect. But hey, grognards be grognards.
My big issue personally is her choice of games. Really? Two Joss Whedon tabletop adaptations and a steampunk anime game? Have some dignity!
MicroMissles, February 05, 2014, 09:56:53 pm
And here's Montrith, GMing a game for free like a sucker. Haha, Montrith, you sucker.
Some half-assed searching makes me fairly certain that Terra Snover is one and the same as Steele Midgear Snover, who, before the advent of Kickstarter, tried to get money via PayPal begging poorly drawn cash-grab fetish comics. The Bad Webcomics Wiki (http://badwebcomicswiki.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Black_Jade) (which I usually find a mediocre source for train wrecks) has something on one of Snover's many failed attempts at making a webcomic. Because when you can't make money making a shitty low effort webcomic, it makes perfect sense to try and get money for making something that has a higher learning threshold after you've made a model of a stump. It can't be her, the art is way, way too good.
Why is this something I remembered?

How relevant is haiku to the average modern Japanese person?
Probably very little.

To be fair, by not drawing the explosion, it leaves it up to the reader's interpretation, which leaves a stronger impact.

SHE WENT TO ART SCHOOL?? look I'm not great, but you'd think going to art school she would improve just purely based on how much you HAVE to draw to make it through??I dunno. Argh. ><

I can say from experience that, depending on the school you go to and the programs you take, you can get an art degree without being all that good.
I think Terra's cartoon work is sort of telling to her philosophy as an artist. Like, it's usually very easy to tell someone who draws in a less than realistic style because they want to explore things like expression or exaggeration versus someone who draws in a cartoony style because they think it's easier than drawing realistically. Ms. Snover very handily falls into the latter category: Her cartoons are very similar to her more realistic attempts at art, just with less detail to them. Like, if you look at her portfolio there are a lot of cut corners in her work.
