Yeah the anime options lately have kinda been junk, the only few that have blipped on my radar lately are Delicious in Dungeon, Spy x Family, and Bullbuster. Like nothing else has seemed like it was any different or even worth digging into cause it's all the same noun adjective noun noun verb in another world

What was the patient zero for isekais with stupidly long names? Cause that trend seems to be getting really out of control

I'm sure people have explained why there's such a high focus on high school students and when that is and isn't creepy, but I'm blanking on those explanations.

For the same reason that western publishers are focused on the "Young Adult" market. And it's only not creepy if you find capitalism and finding sly ways to market to children not creepy.

It's always been bad. We tend to forget the garbage we passed over when we were younger but for every good anime/manga you enjoyed there were ten garbo harem anime/manga and things even worse.

Even if I enjoy quite a bit of it, I stand by the statement, Anime is trash

Youth as ideal has always been marketing 101

i just got real tired of it when i turned 30 and was like "can anything fun be about an adult please?"

it's part of why i got back into tabletop

There are also more shows being produced now.

I think the popularity of isekai partially stems from the way video games are written and the prevalence of explainer videos on YouTube. If the only other media you ingest is video games and people talking about video games, you need someone to just flat out explain the setting and stakes of the plot to you. We are also seeing the Star Wars/Marvel/DC problem where the audience is split into two groups who will waste their money, older die-hards and younger new fans and they need both to survive. Isekai is easy for younger fans to follow because the key information is spoon fed to the audience and older otaku can feel like it is somehow more deep because it appeals to their “mastery.”

Edit: Animation that is still frames and inner monologues is also cheaper to produce.

There certainly were lots of garbo harem animes I didn't bother with in the past, but I don't remember "slave harem" being as common as it is today.

and even though there's all these dumb isekai, we still haven't gotten an edgy anime reimagining of the wizard of oz

It's because the novels some anime is based on, a lot of them were originally published on novel writing websites. It's common for people to make the title on there just a description of the story so people don't have to click through and read a description. They know what it is right away. And now it's kind of a joke.
