My shitty yellow teeth were the one last thing about me that I thought couldn't be fetishized. The last fucking thing. Thanks a lot, Montrith.

edit: This could probably use the "you must be a killer" tag. The liberty van nutcase is using that monstrosity to transport bodies.

Makes me glad I could never pick up the habit. Just can't stand tobacco of any kind, even when I tried using a pipe like the pompous academic I am.

And shouldn't there be "Thanks Montrith" and "There Are Better Ways to Kill Yourself" tags on this ep?

"It can be quite a turn on to observe a member of the tender gender--"

What am I doing with my life? What the hell am I doing with my life? I like in a Central Time Zone state and it's three thirty in the morning and I just heard those words with my own ears. Three thirty. Why am I awake? Why do I listen to this podcast? What the hell am I doing? I am clicking all of the red xs and going to bed. good fucking night.

Regarding the "what did we learn" part of the episode, it's absolutely baffling how the conspiracy nuts believe that the government is controlling the weather every day with chemtrails, but man-made climate change is obviously a mainstream media lie.  Like, those are the same conspiracy people, right?  I'd honestly prefer to believe that they aren't, and that even people with crazy baseline beliefs can at least remain consistent.  "They're so powerful that they can change the weather at will, but obviously nobody can make a lasting impact on it."

I'm like 15 minutes in listening to the dude who really wants to get hooked on cigarettes and then quit.

I didn't even consider how much better the "I want to do something inadvisable" episodes would be if you brought someone on who already did the inadvisable thing and got burned by it.

So, I kind of guessed coming in that smoking fetish would get brought up.

But I had also thought it would only be about fetishizing the "cool image" of smoking. What really got to me is that these people get their rocks off from the worst shit smoking does to you. The amount of times people exclaimed how much black lungs turned them on may not have been the grossest thing this podcast had for a while, but it was the most repulsive.

It must be disappointing to meet a woman with nicely yellowed teeth, only to find out that she just drinks a lot of coffee.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having setbacks with trying to quit, Lemon.

If it helps, try picturing some pallid creep in a smoking jacket he bought off of eBay, jerking it to the thought of you sticking a cigarette up your urethra,

Three things about this episode:

  • I used to have a boss with a smoking fetish at my first software job. He used to let us smoke in the office and would give me cartons of cigarettes sometimes. I had no idea that a smoking fetish was a thing until one day he got high in the office and told me that I looked really hot smoking and also I should get a lip ring. This is not a joke.
turkey smoothie, February 07, 2016, 12:01:45 pm

That's gotta be a crime of some kind, right? Either sexual harassment or a smoking ban breach?

I've heard you folks read some really disturbing shit, but this one got me on a personal level as well, albeit for entirely different reasons.  To me, this was worse than the foot-sniffers or the vores or even the bug-up-your-wang people.  I mean, I know that human beings will fetishise literally anything, but these fuckers you've read from need to see a goddamn psychiatrist, and that's saying something in a world with multiples in.

Both, probably. As is the case with most situations like this actually going through dealing with it would be light years worse than just leaving the job.

After quitting, I would have the occasional one or three off and on, first separated by months, and then by years. I didn't have any shit like your past boss to deal with, but you've been heading in the right direction and it's possible (if not easy) to make it past setbacks. (This has been a paid message from the anti-smoking establishment).

Yes, this had me wondering if there is any overlap between the smoking fetishists and the car exhaust fetishists.

I appreciate the encouragement! I'm actually doing pretty good on this front, I've been more or less quit with a few breaks here and there for a couple weeks at a time for years, now. But this was a particularly long stretch. To speak to how stupid that 'get addicted just to try it and then quit' guy is, it's amazing how i can go 8 months without thinking of one, suddenly have something remind me that cigarettes exist and get pulled back in.

That entire concept actually made me really angry. The subtext, I think, of everything that dork was saying was kind of like "well, idiots might get addicted, but I'm smart and have willpower and I'm just going to be able to walk it off, unlike you trashy ~addicts~ who just naturally fall in to this sort of thing." So in a sense, I hope he did get addicted. He deserves it.

God, everyone in this episode was just so awful.

From some of the things the ridiculists said at the end of the episode, I get the feeling that there was a bunch of cut content which was even worse, somehow.

That pissed me off too!  I'm also quitting smoking and doing just okay at it.  Addiction isn't a fucking joke and it doesn't happen to losers--it can happen to anyone.  I wish the worst for this asshole.
Listening to this episode made me feel a few different ways.  For the first 20 minutes or so, I really wanted a cigarette.  As the episode continued and got grosser and grosser, I did not want a cigarette anymore.  The part about foot veins did not make me feel good.  I might read the doc to see the rest of the gross stuff if I can stomach it.

You know how after an episode, sometimes you get weirdos coming in to earnestly talk about the topic and how it makes everyone uncomfortable?  I guess it's my turn.

I know people who smoke in real life.  There, I said it.

This episode gave me the heebies in the way that Lou Reads does in episodes like monster cock destruction or enemas. It's basically a fetish for endangering your well-being and quality of life. And in this case, fetishizing an illness, if you are one to see addiction that way. The heebiest.

It has certainly produced a quality thread though.

I was reminded of the fat fetish/feeder guys from episode five (and that outake which seems to be off the website) more than anyone else, what with the whole getting off on being super-unhealthy and giving each other advice on how to do execute a really dumb idea (picking up smoking/becoming morbidly obese).

The a-n-a-l to monster cock word filter is my favorite thing ever. I'm picturing an enormous cock-and-balls rampaging around Tokyo. You don't want to know what it breathes instead of fire.

This one made me especially angry because one side of my family has been dropping dead from smoking-related health issues my entire life. Just lost my great aunt to lung cancer a few months ago.

In the context of the show, this sort of thing doesn't come up often. Sure, you could look at the food episodes the same way if you have loved ones passing away due to a lifetime of poor diet and ranch sauce. But smoking is so insidious.

This made me want to slap Denis Leary with every copy of "No Cure For Cancer" that I could possibly get my hands on.

A friend of a friend that I sort of know as well told us at a get-together that he'd started smoking "just for the experience of quitting, and to prove I can do it." We weren't able to dissuade him despite everyone else present saying how dumb that was.

Also, the idea of being "turned on by black lungs" is just baffling to me. Like... you don't SEE someone's lungs. I hope. You are literally fetishizing someone making themselves less healthy and, as has been said by John and others on here, that's suuuuuuuper gross.

I'm really turned on by the idea that your lungs might be black. I'm guessing they're not so much turned on by the black lungs themselves as they are using the black lungs as a representation of the self-destruction thing? Hopefully?

I wonder if it's just selection pressure but I honestly would have expected a lot more of a Mad Men vibe from smoking fetishists.  Like, it's something that's been pretty heavily romanticized, so it makes sense in that aspect, but they skipped over that entirely and went right to the parts that never got romanticized.

Fetishes always find a way.

Wow. I guess I'm incredibly slow because at first I assumed this ep would be all about that crazy smokers rights party lady ( I heard about her before) but totally forgot there's about the whole fetish side to things.
I guess I really shouldn't be that surprised. The weird thing is I thought i'd see more people making excuses like " smoking's not as bad ( lists bogus pseudo science) " or it's more dangerous to quit then it is to keep smoking" but nope these fetish people were totally all " this shit is killing me, I love my sexy black cancer ridden lungs weeeeeeeeee" even sadder when they were talking about there SO's
