Title: What episodes do you recommend?
Post by: Emperor Jack Chick on May 29, 2013, 12:58:01 am
So this is known to most of the ridiculists, but I don't actually listen to the podcast ever. I mean why would you put people talking on when you could blast sick metal? I feel like I should catch up though. Gimme recommendations in some sort of organized form. If there are any standouts or ones that will horrify me.

Thanks!

PS Sweet metal for inspiration!

If you haven't listened to "Any Cling You Want (You Got It)" then you need to change that IMMEDIATELY.

By Demons Be Driven (Insane) is a personal favorite, but the recipe ones oh God the recipe ones.  And the Wikihow-type eps.

Horrify you? Probably 95: Why Crush A Bug... (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=161:episode-95-why-crush-a-bug-when-you-can-ruin-it-emotionally&catid=1:podcasts) and the adult babies one (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=107:episode-63-achtung-adult-babies&catid=1:podcasts).

Standouts? I second the clingfilm episode, the 'hack some guy's email' short (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=108:short-mission-acquired-hack-some-guys-e-mail&catid=1:podcasts), angry angry hippos (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=152:episode-89-angry-angry-hippos&catid=1:podcasts) and the inventors episode. (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=160:episode-94-im-really-more-of-an-idea-guy&catid=1:podcasts)

Have you already listened to the one where everyone impersonates you?

I have a personal shortlist I always recommend when trying to get into the F+, it goes as such:

Episode 96 (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=162:episode-96-hocus-bogus&catid=1:podcasts)

Episode 89 (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=152:episode-89-angry-angry-hippos&catid=1:podcasts)

Episode 80 (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=140:episode-80-disliking-this-episode-is-a-form-of-harassment&catid=1:podcasts)

Episode 74 (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=129:episode-74-our-love-doesnt-need-a-third-dimension&catid=1:podcasts)

Episode 71 (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=123:episode-71-amazon-recommends-years-of-therapy&catid=1:podcasts)

Episode 67 (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=114:episode-67-where-can-i-find-a-tailor-for-these-pinstripe-balls&catid=1:podcasts)

The reasoning behind these is not specifically episode quality(though I think these are all great), it's more that I find they're kind of easily approachable concepts for anyone new to the show. Bad porn, crazy lawsuits, fat people, nerds trying to marry cartoon characters. These are pretty much all things anyone on the internet is familiar with by now.

God Bless You Water Woman. There's something nostalgic about listening to a brand of crazy that predates the internet. New age dolphin mysticism and bigfoot are two tastes that taste great together. Also:

That would be Episode 77: Go Get 'em, Tiger (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=134:episode-77-go-get-em-tiger&catid=1:podcasts). It's not because we were having a dig, it was relevant to what we were reading at the time.

I, of course, am partial to any episode featuring retarded (http://[url=http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=11%3Aepisode-ix-the-transformers-radio-variety-hour&catid=1%3Apodcasts&Itemid=1) scripts (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=66%3Aepisode-41-lemon-types-in-a-title-for-this-episode&catid=1%3Apodcasts&Itemid=1) or baffling (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=83%3Aepisode-53-mixd-nuts-socks-bots-and-burps&catid=1%3Apodcasts&Itemid=1) prose (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=165:episode-99-mr-gandolfini-we-have-a-few-rewrites&catid=1:podcasts).

I really like the WikiHow and Yahoo! Answers episodes, too.

If you love metal, you need to listen to the Cock Rub Warriors episode immediately. I can't think of a more fitting musical score for that one.

Most of the episodes are good as long as you avoid the ones with that weird guy who likes metal music and does the Ash Ketchum voice. I don't know what his problem is...

Seriously thought the starter ones I always recommend are Episode 61 (Any CLing you Want) (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=105:episode-61-any-cling-you-want-you-got-it&catid=1:podcasts), Episode 58 (I can't Believe It's Entirely Butter) (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=94:episode-58-i-cant-believe-its-entirely-butter&catid=1:podcasts) and Episode 43 (My Fanfics are Full of Emotion) (http://thefpl.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=68:episode-43-my-fanfics-are-full-of-emotion&catid=1:podcasts)

I find huge frustration in trying to get others into the F-plus.  People are so conditioned by how radio and other Podcasts work, they sometimes aren't capable of appreciating what's being said.

For example, I once tried playing the Screech action hero fan-fiction episode for someone, and he listened for about 8 minutes, and then rolled his eyes and went, "Are they STILL talking about Screech?"

Even with my introduction to what it was, he still somehow couldn't absorb the idea that it was a piece being read and not say, Adam Carolla, choosing to talk about a subject for a few seconds.  *shudders*

To be fair, it took me a few episodes to get into.  I think the F-plus is extremely rewarding when you get to a place of understanding about just what's going on, but it takes more time than people often have the patience for.

See, this is where being Finnish pays off. My parents like to listen to the national broadcasting network channels while driving, which means I have been exposed to such quality programming as "Winter of 1961: Why it was very cold" and "Sounds of nature: A hedgehog extravaganza".

You shouldn't listen to them, anyway. You might end up winning the lottery and then getting on a plane that crashes in the middle of nowhere and polar bears 108-minute cycles Dharma Initiative.
