Having attended a furry con once, that weird fetish story is ABSOLUTELY believable to me.  A lot of those guys have NO personal boundaries or decorum.  It is a really creepy experience even leaving aside the cartoon animal shit.  Weird, weeeeiiiiirrrd people go to furry cons.

Our animu club was hosting a room and needed volunteers to make sure nobody walked away with the AV equipment.  And I was curious. 

It was not really interestingly creepy, mostly just nerds with poor socialization, so like an animu or scifi con but with mascot costumes instead of cosplay and more TMI.  I did see a pretty kickass spider costume, which was neat.  Overall, not an experience I recommend; it was just boring and uncomfortable.

Not a furry myself; I like my animals looking and acting like animals, not weird cartoon things.
