everybody who has a biblical name that has a meaning has to translate it into English. I don't know Greek, but all the ones in the new testament that are from Greek also get this treatment, i.e. Peter is 'rock'
Joshua (or Jesus for that matter)? you're 'God will redeem' or 'God's salvation' or if you inflect it a certain way, 'savior'
Jacob? sorry, you're 'heel' (as a male verb in future 3rd person singular)
Isaac? you're gonna laugh because your name is now 'will laugh'
Dan? well I'll just call you 'judge', unless it's short for Daniel, which is 'God is my judge'
Elizabeth? you're 'God is my oath'
Benjamin? now you're 'right hand son' or if want to turn it into an existing name: Dexter
Debra/Deborah? you're 'bee'
Samson? you're 'sunny'
Adam? it's the word generally used for 'man', but it comes from "adama" which is 'earth'
Eve? it's basically just 'alive' or 'living'
not counting the ones that accidentally end up being names, like Susan, which is either Lily or Rose (shoshan or shoshanah), or the ones that are just two different names for god shoved together (Elijah and Joel)
