Pretty self explanatory, I think.

It always makes me smile whenever Kumquat answers a question with "Lobster Hands"

Unsurprisingly, my heart lies with every time Portaxx responds to a misunderstanding about animals with "AND BIRD KNEES DON'T BEND BACKWARDS!"

Also Slug Voice.

"In shitting!" never became a running gag but it should've.

I don't think I have a favorite, but I'm wondering which ones we've used the most. I'm thinking it's probably a tie between Well-Known Food Place and courtesy pee.

Well-Known Food Place is a great all-purpose joke to use anytime we're reading someone being unnecessarily or coyly vague about something.

Ooh, there's also the persistent storyline I have going in my head where every time Boots has to shout an all-caps post, the timing is such that his neighbors always hear him, either through the wall or outside as they walk by a window. Their entire familiarity with Boots is based upon overhearing him shout things at his computer monitor.

jack-chick, February 21, 2014, 08:43:56 pm

I'm mostly just glad we finally have a definitive answer on the identities of Catullus and Lesbia. I minored in Classics, this is the kind of thing that's funny to me.

For my part, callbacks to any of the PUA stuff (especially any variation on "points to schlong") always make me giggle like an idiot.

jack-chick, February 21, 2014, 08:43:56 pm

FOR THE LAST TIME, JACK, I. DO. NOT. HAVE. THEM.

>(

Also as for great recurring jokes:

- I don't know if this counts as a "running gag" or simply "the natural consequences of having Stog in the podcast," but all the "thanks Stog" moments make me smile.

- The Jimmyfranks curse, which will never be broken.

- Not a joke really, but I just wanted to say every time someone says "YAY VICTOR" is the best. Because YAY VICTOR!

Anytime a ridiculist imitates another ridiculists voice.

Also, it's totally an unintentional/uncommented-on recurring thing but I smile every time Boots says or reads "soe-rry" because it's so Canadian.

F Plus Singularity moments might not count as a running joke, but they inspire the ugliest sort of joy in my soul. Portaxx wanting to hug things reminds me that there is some good in this world. My favorite running joke is totally slug voice, though. To this day, I still crack up listening to In The Family.

The main problem is that the voice doesn't lend itself well to anything more than interjections or extremely short sentences. So far that's been, what, the slug and sasquatch?

"YES"

"THANK YOU"

"MUCH GOOD"

"FRIEND"

"WE SEE YOU COME"

Buttsex related in-jokes are the best in-jokes. Because even if you don't get the reference they are still funny because they are about sex and also butts, both of which are inherently funny.

So many truths in this post. Also, "how often" is such a messed up question - makes me wonder if this dude thinks there's quotas he needs to meet on everything.

That joke has so many layers, really. It also involves a recurring theme of people who approach the internet kind of like the oracle of Delphi. They have a problem, so they just scream that problem at the internet and expect an answer to materialize on their screen from some platonic realm of pure truth. Of course, what actually happens is that their question is answered by a bunch of idiots who mash their hands against a keyboard until words come out, because that's how the internet actually works.

I don't know that this counts as a "running gag" per se, but I need somewhere to rave about Isfahan's amazingly specific impressions (Lou Fernandez in the plushophile episode, the lead singer of Linkin Park in the ice-chewers episode, etc.).  They're not necessarily good, but they're all really funny.

Garbage Dacey, May 15, 2014, 03:05:51 pm

Yeah, CanCon  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_content) regulations meant I had to put up with an awful lot of Snow airplay in the 90s. It's a thing that's never really going to leave my brain.

Similarly: Adam referenced ZZ Top in both of his last two appearances. All we need is a John to double up on some Air Supply mentions and we'll have some sort of trifecta of... something.

When someone's trying to set up an elegant joke and then someone else (usually Lemon) just slams in with the same joke, or when two people are trying to get to the same joke.

I remember that happening over a hexadecimal joke, and then everyone felt bad that they'd just had multiple people try to make a hexadecimal joke.

I'm a sucker for any exchange that goes something like this:
Ridiculist reading post: "I enjoy the graceful presence of cats, and the effervescent pleasures of a dog's joy. I have few vices, although I have a penchant for cake and I do sometimes write in a long-winded and purple prose manner."
Ridiculist #2, no hesitation: "Yeah you do."

Like that whole "Yeah it is." "Yeah you are." instantly and without having to think about it thing. It's not a running joke so much as a mannerism but I can't stop myself from giggling every time.

I really love when ridiculists turn the usual plug for ballp.it into something else or just straight up mocking the idea of plugging the forum.

Like when something about finding horny sluts (or something along those lines) was mentioned, Boots or someone immediately said "You can find them on Ballllllpit!" in a hilarious Lemon imitation.
Sherman Tank, November 12, 2015, 01:27:37 pm

Also every time someone makes fun of Lemon for pushing Flatter or whatever the heck that thing was they were making fun of him for.

It occurs to me that quite possibly my favorite running fplus gag is 'Lemon has ingested many illegal drugs.' Every once in a while he'll casually say 'hey that's an LSD tab, which I recognize' or 'hey, those aren't the symptoms of meth.' I don't know how much of this is character and how much of this is 'Lemon has ingested many illegal drugs' but I kind of love it.

Would portaxx getting frustrated with people ruining cartoons with their fandom wank count as a running gag?

I don't know if it's a running gag or just a thing he does, but I love that Kumquatxop starts every post with some variation of "HI YES HELLO."

Is it a callback if it just turns up on its own? Anyway, I love "sex power". I don't know what it is, exactly, but I long for "sex power".

The best thing about sex power is you don't need to know what it is, you just need to know how to increase it

Listening to some old episodes today, I remembered that I'm always tickled by a ridiculist (often Frank West) saying, "oh, wait, let me switch to my [girl/man/British] voice," and then not changing their voice at all.

I love that every person on the podcast can't do a British accent to save their life. Every attempt sounds like a linguistic tour of the Commonwealth and it makes me laugh every time.

It makes Lemon's sheer delight at first hearing the name "booger sugar" for cocaine at the end of the book reviews episode (213) that much more wonderful. x3

At the risk of doxxing his username used to have Citrus in it before he simplified it to Lemon, so people do that because it's what they called him for many years.

I love it whenever Lemon tries to set up a ballpit plug and the other person totally drops the ball, in part because it was precisely those shit plugs that made me check this place out.

Also anytime Bunnybread encourages STOG to act up.

While Frank West reading emoticons is always wonderful I'm just as consistently amused by the related recurring gag of Frank West having a monopoly on reading emoticons and threatening legal action whenever someone else on the podcast starts muscling in on his schtick.

Also the running gag about Frank West being on multiple government watchlists following F Plus Live 3. Frank West is just really good for running gags in general come to think of it...

-I don't have that problem. Goodbye!

It's been a while since its last appearance, but I'm a big fan of boots's Edith Bunker voice.  It was a nice surprise to hear it last ep.

-Any variation on "Lemon, puh-leeze don't doxx me!" when the ridiculists will imply they are the posters they read excerpts from. e.g. "Oh, we found Portaxx's account"
