This is the greatest goddamned title.
EDIT: STOG, Portaxx, and Jimmyfranks? Holy shit!
EDIT2: Because I'm an overbearing dick I'm going to suggest some extra tags: "hey everybody I'm on drugs", "support groups", "first world problems", "annoying", "morons", "cant stop clown will eat me out", "fetishes", "the internet isn't helping", "otherkin"
-
So happy I was able to sneak in an under-the-radar Hotline Miami reference into the podcast.
-
Can we get a ringtone of Portaxx saying Woop Woop I have a clown fetish faygo magnets etc"?
-
It should be noted that the Wikipedia article about navel fetishism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navel_fetishism) is ridiculously long. It was obviously compiled by a fetishist. It has 100 citations, and seems to reference every example of a female celebrity saying anything about their navels.
-
I'm just going to take a moment and acknowledge that "sturgeon" pun that portaxx made [yay] as they say, "mmmmthat's good f plus!"
-
I just listened to this with a friend of mine who said "it's unfair to call it a rollercoaster ride because a rollercoaster only goes forward, never sideways"
-
I want the portaxx simulcast commentary on F Plus (all)
-
Jack Chick was going to make a Therion joke, wasn't he?
Also I can back that poster up: werewolves are well-known for being far less impulsive than humans.
-
Remind me what's the point of the Experience Project again? To share niche fetishes and debate the fine points of your fetish? Or is it to yell your life story into the void as some sort of desperate plea for attention? Or is it actually for crazy people to write their rants so they can inform all the poor deluded sheeple
How can these all entirely different communities exist on this site? Are there fetishists who share their bmonster cock life stories that don't amount to anything? Are there boring teenagers discovering their strange fetish for the first time? Is there a section of the site that's the intersection between these groups? Are there weird furries talking about how the Illuminati masturbate to furry porn and that they're the ubermensch because they've thrown their humanity away and their mom keeps oppressing them for it.
-
That 9/11 truther may have been the best and most insane thing I've heard on this podcast. Holy Fuck. It just kept getting better.

It is a place where guys with a fetish for "short-nailed women who wear leotards and animal masks" can go to war with the tribe guys who have a fetish for "long-nailed women who wear leotards and animal masks".

so, if i were to say, be sort of working on an otherkin document, would a mix of crazy therian forums that have more of the crazy person trying to be noble animal flavor and batshit tumblr user style stuff be good? or should I stick to one or the other?

Personally speaking as the one who will likely laugh/rage the most at an otherkin episode*, here's what I'd love to see, though I suspect it'll be kind of hard to find:
Otherkin started off as having incredibly elaborate, over-the-top backstories. At the time, the idea was "I'm a dragon!... okay so I know what you're thinking, since I don't look like one, but let me explain!" Often this included a huge, exciting story about what happened in their past lives. In the case of fictional species, it would also include describing the world they were "from" and it always came off as a cornball fantasy novel. Then something-something-something, they'd die, something-something-something-else, they'd get reincarnated in their current form for whatever reason. Sometimes they knew why, sometimes they didn't. But now they're stuck as a human and it is hard adjusting to this crazy human world, you guys! Some of them would be super pissed at being "confined" in this way, while others would straight-up pretend to be fascinated by our weird alien culture as if they didn't grow up in it with the rest of us. A great example of the latter would be the webcomic Theri There, which cheerfully described how gosh darn WaCkY it was trying to live as a non-human in our human world. Some examples include dealing with phantom wings and tails (http://i.imgur.com/kjZGgru.jpg), pointing with their phantom wings (https://comicslate.org/_media/furry/theri_there/0002.gif), and using "mental shifts" to somehow affect real-world physics (http://i.imgur.com/yVbq8Fj.jpg). Oh yeah, "mental shifting" is totally a thing. Since physically shifting is impossible, then might as well mentally turn into a monster, right? I love all that crap, because the idea of going out of your way to make your own home planet seem exotic and unfamiliar is just great. Other fun things include struggling to live in a world without magic vs. the otherkin who say they totally do practice magic but humans can't see it, frequent visits to the astral plane, and communicating with otherworldly beings. That stuff is all beautiful.
I loooove the backstories of the old days too, but I really don't know if any of them still post any. The new trend is to just go the route of the multiples community and say "I'm a dragon! Nope! That's it! That's all you get! I'm literally a dragon!!!" Sadly the current community just pulls annoying stuff like saying "I have a mental illness and I say I'm a dragon so if you say I'm not, then you hate mentally ill people!" or "this is a coping mechanism so if you say I'm not a dragon, then you hate abused people!" and so on. That's not funny so much as it is aggravating, and to me, at this point you could substitute any other group for "otherkin" in those arguments and you'd get 99% of the irritating, whiny teen bloggers you see today. This dilutes the subject matter, in my opinion. I'd recommend going for more specific subjects like Kin Food and Malatora, rather than Stupid Tumblr Identity Politics Post #40289271. If you can find a backstory worth reading to with all that, I will hug you forever.
Oh sorry, did I type too much? Musta been my kintype acting up again! You know how we energy vampire dot-eyed dragons get ^_^;;;
* imagine me with a dragon hat, a pennant that says "OTHERKIN" on it, and a big foam finger that looks like a falcon's foot
-
-nodnod- i can definitely see that. I have a love for searching [terriblecharacter]kin into tumblr and seeing what I can come up with, and if you search deep enough you can find some iiiiiiiiiiinteresting backstories, but I'll definitely dig more for other valuable sources of entertainment. Did a short search to find some weird therian stuff and I found some poetry! so that's certainly a start.
looks like there's lots of old otherkin forums that are dead now though. Sad times, I'd have loved to find some early 2000s forum relic
-
Save for the outtake at the start, that was an incredibly professionally done reader intro section. Well done!

Come to think of it, "The Internet isn't helping" could be an alternate tagline for the whole podcast.

I like that Lemon's dead-in-the-water reference from the closer of the first Experience Project episode is the music for the closer of this one.

Oh dear... and their blurb is very troubling, indeed. I'm trying to figure out what they actually mean in their pile of infosec jargon. Posts on the site also seem to indicate "that girl who died," which is probably a rumor or a red herring.
From EP's announcement:
None of these are insurmountable problems, but they require immense resources to address reliably, effectively, and safely at scale. Those are outside the reach of all but a tiny handful of massive companies like Facebook and Google.
This is actually false, but a convenient and topical excuse. It also makes you sound really incompetent. Sorry, EP. My guess is that they're losing money and their ToS/associated fine print isn't detailed enough to cover their asses in the case of a legal snafu.

If we had any sort of hand in this, it could only be from exposing just how many creeps, rambling self-absorbed teens, and full-blown legitimately insane people use the site for the benefit and betterment of absolutely nobody. Even the best-case scenarios involve mostly uninteresting and pointless non-stories typed into a void—stories which nobody read and even fewer people asked for in the first place.
Like the EP owner listened to our two episodes about the site, looked down at their hands, and went "Oh my God... they're right. They're right about everything." Then they lifted the glass and hit the big red palm-sized button by their mouse.

Jynx is terrible and there are no ways to defend it. I personally don't like Hypno, who would fit way better in a Shin Megami Tensei game, since it's a monkey/goblin thing that puts children to sleep and eats their dreams and is a general creepy fucker. What child would want to go around with a creepy goblin that's the same height and weight as a regular (albeit short) adult?
I like the dumb icecream pokemon, it's cute enough for me.

I don't have anything against Vanillite either- some people are so nostalgic for Gen 1 that they kinda filter out the fact that the original Pokemon lineup featured things like purple goop, pink blob, five eggs, palm tree, and like fifty normal lookin' birds.
Not that I have a problem with any of that, but let's not pretend that the original designs weren't occasionally dumb and goofy too!

I don't know shit about Pokemon except what I learned through osmosis, so this page has made me feel both utterly baffled and very, very lonely.

As they are, I totally agree with you! See, if they were just their Therian Formes, shown above? They wouldn't be GREAT, but they'd at least be PASSABLE legendaries -- around the same level as Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, although that trio still wins out because Entei is super huggable and cozy-looking.
But no. We had to get dudes on clouds with tails. :/
Jynx is still the winner of worst-designed Pokemon hands down, but -- come on. Dudes. On clouds. With tails.

These aren't really designs invented for Pokemon games, they're directly inspired by representations (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/Fujinraijin-tawaraya.jpg) of Raijin and Fujin and other Japanese gods.
