Title: Favourite Voices
Post by: Lady Frenzy on February 08, 2013, 12:10:26 am
Because there's more than just Fat Voice. There's Jack Chick's Anime Voice and Regal Voice, everyone's Hans Von Hozel impression, and Acier.

True story: went I went to the US for a business trip, I was watching TV in my hotel room and suddenly Paula Deen came on going "BUY MY HAM, Y'ALL!" That was the first time I'd really heard her and I immediately thought "oh my god, Bunnybread wasn't exaggerating."

Oh man, I have so many favourite voices. Let me list a handful of my favourites (In no particular order):

1. John's fat voice
2. Many of Bunnybread's voices, and his ability to switch between high-pitched childlike voice to his deep regular voice on a dime.
3. Acier's Québécois voice
4. Isfahan's really angry voice (Particularly "iPhone WOULDN'T LET ME FINISH" and "YOU SHOULD STICK A DILDO IN HIS BUTT AND SEE HOW HE LIKES IT")
5. Jack Chick's anime character voice. ("AROUND A MAN'S COCK")
6. Lemon impersonating Jack Chick's anime character voice. ("WHY AM I PUNCHING THIS WALL?!")
7. Last but definitely not least, STOG's hodgepodge of I-have-no-idea-what-accent-that-is in the omorashi episode.

I could keep listing them, but there are so many good ones.

STOG as Garfield is absolute perfection. There's also a particular Boots voice I love... I think it was Da Sand Man in the quicksand episode, maybe? It reduced me to giggles in public when I first heard it.

ETA: Can't believe I forgot Jimmyfranks. All his voices, really, but Rob will always be close to my heart.

Seconding  Lemon impersonating Jack Chick's anime character voice. I also love the royalty voice for "Arrive! Perform fellatio!" bit. Anime voice is always great too, especially "Sometimes I wish I'd never been born!".  Oh, and every time someone tries to do a British accent.

Aside from the much-beloved Fat Voice, I was in tears at Bunnybread's Paula Deen impression. I always love when Mr. Bread comes out, because hearing him go off-script is always so great (seriously, I crack up every time I hear him do Gangstaboo918).

I gotta say, I vaguely remember the Garfield cartoon and... I am sure that STOG was a 100% perfect imitation of Garfield's voice from that. Goddamn.

But also yes, fat voices are always amazing.

Stog possesses the soul of Lorenzo Music. Literally. Ghost hunters have been trying to hunt him down for years, it's a pretty big deal.

Some I like that haven't been mentioned yet is Portaxx's Annie May / Gargoyle voice, and Lemon's Robotnik and Avilcore.

Also, Isfahan's Irish accent.  I was in Ireland for a year and I ran into people who really did sound like that.

No, that's Stog.
Ooohh!  Lemme talk about my favorite Stog voice!  It was a facebook episode (the one with all the 'mosk' stuff towards the end, I think) and I was playing a little character, not unlike Mr. GangstaBoo918, who was wishing harm to befall some children.  Stog valiantly rushed in to defend the children's souls with a voice that some might describe as 'melting'.  I couldn't quite understand whatever Stog was saying but I loved every syllable.

I love that weird feral beast that Lemon does which led to that exchange in the Furries ep "permanent marks are impossible due to my current living situation..." "...I'm tied to a post in the yard."

Boots' Asperger voice always slays me.

Isfahan does have quite the range! My favorite line read of his recently though was in the Asexuals episode. "...Cornography?"

The hell of it is I can think of like a dozen voices to do while I'm shaving or driving to the grocery store, but then comes reading time and my brain locks up.

Lemon will say something like "Okay, Isfahan, take 'Mutil8or', the third post down" and I'm already like Oh god oh god what voice think of a voice uhhhhhh

I'm seriously considering just keeping a .txt file list of voices and having it open next to the browser window while reading.

Victor's sad voice is actually the funniest thing to listen to, because I always feel sorry for him.

Lemon's subdued voice "well they package chips with air because of the vaccum sealed and ok.."

John's Barney impression was spot on.

I think my favourite voice is the anime voice, done by Jack Chick and Lemon (even Portaxx's annie may voice) "WHY DO I HAVE SUCH A HUGE HEAD"

One of Kumquatxop's voices makes me crack up every time. I don't know if there's a name for it (Or if it's already been named here) but his voice when ranting about kids in Suffer The Little Children (Both the "To prevent them from running into my damned legs!" and the little verbal tic he does when he's briefly interrupted by Lemon, sort of a "myuh!" kind of noise) is the one I had in mind.

I once tried to make a sort of F-Plus bestiary of voices and went back through all the episodes trying to catalogue all of them.  It proved to be too much for me, but I made it about as far as episode 13.  I was surprised to realize that "Quebecois" is the very first inflected voice to show up on the F-Plus in the sneeze-fic.

I noticed also that Jack Chick's regal voice sort of changes over time...I very much seperate the ones he uses in "The Transformers Radio Variety Hour" and "Sex is Personals"... with those two the regal voice is much more deep and booming with more heavilly rolled 'r's.

The later incarnation that shows up (which I especially love in the facebook fight between "Killa thump wicked ninja 'thumper' clown") is almost more of an erudite villiany sort of thing that I like even more.

Lastly, I wanna give a shout-out to the voice Lemon starts using in "Any Cling You Want" during the pet-store robbery scene.  He brings it back a good number of times and it ALWAYS destroys me.

I could go on, but I'm pretty sure you all wanna stab me by now.

It's been my experience, as a Kebekker that's lived in Ontario long enough to trick both sides with my fluency, that most francophones are more impressed that you'd made an effort to speak French, no matter how awkwardly, rather than just barge on ahead in English and hope somebody understands.

That's got nothing to do with favourite voices, though.  I'm going to flatter myself:  I liked my trranyslwanian voice (for the dino dongs), if only for Lemon's anguished cry of, "No Dracula, no!"

I certainly didn't mean it as a criticism, Jack.  If you can do both those voices as distinct from each other, bronchitis or no, more power to you.  The rolled 'R's are obviously more choice than illness, (though I suppose they could be an alcohal induced choice) and as I said, I think the two voices could be seperate and great.

As a Scotsman, I approve of Isfahan's Scottish accent. Granted, its usage in the furry episode for the guy from Aberdeen wasn't entirely accurate (Aberdonians have a different accent and dialect!) but I approve of it nonetheless. I hope someday to show up on an episode so I can spread knowledge of the Doric dialect. :D

The Rs in the Scottish accent trip me up, because my tongue wants to roll them. So words like "trip" become "ta-rip" before I can stop it. Also I think that means by default I have the best third-best British accent in the lineup behind Jimmyfranks's Cockney and Bunnybread's Jason Statham.

Once I master Welsh I will have all of Britain represented!

As an Englishman I have enjoyed all of the accents from the British Isles, but to be honest, Isfahan, your Irish accent is brilliant. I guess few people here will know about your reading of Hans Von Hozel in the Irish voice at the TSG marathon, but it cracked me up.

Not to be too much of a kiss-ass but Bunnybread's and Jimmyfrank's voices are amazing.  I could easily picture the two of you doing real voice acting work in commercials or radio and the like.

Spoiler:  they kinda do.

Jimmyfranks' voice when he read DOOM: Repercussions of Evil was fun. I still say he could easily pass for Colonel Campbell.

Kumquatxop's nerd voice when reading the "Titanium teeth" (I hope that's him at least) is hillarious, he also gets a lot of laughs out of me in the earlier episodes by just reading the material whilst yelling also I think he might be the most underrated reader on the podcast.

Kumquatxop's voice is great. I still liked his reading of Special Meat. I really need to do a redux of that animatic sometime.

Apologies for the double post, but I remembered one of my other favourite voices, which also doubles as a favourite moment. In the episode "A Frottage In The Woods", the voices the readers took on when they were asked to read the tender loving scene while still in their angry voices (I'm not quite sure who was who in this part of the episode, but I'm sure ProtonJon was in there). Best bit had to be:

"WHY?!" >:O
"SO. AH. CAN. KISS. YEW." >:I

@Chaz,

Jack uses the Frottage voice first in the Transformer's episode when he's doing (I have no idea how this character's name is spelled) Black Arachnia.  Another one he should bring back more, I say.

Jimmyfranks' voice when he's pitching his kickstarter for Red WTF and Blue T-shirts in the kickstarter episode is a good one too. The thing that sells it for me every time is the little wheeze-laugh he does before stating his asking price for the project.

Seconding. That voice's appearance in the most recent episode made me happy. Really there were a lot of very good voices in this episode: Lemon's elderly redux of the Aaron Tank voice, whatever the hell that voice Bunnybread did was and the three-way french canadian accents.

"Ghostface" is the a rather deep, scratchy and intense voice that's showed up a few times. The only instance I can quote off the top of my head though is the Sex Is Personals episode:

"JOSH FROM THE FRAT HOUSE ON FIFTEENTH— I'M PREGNANT"

"You do that voice really well."

"THANK YOU"

The one that reminds me of Mr Burns is from The Aces and the Cakes, when one of the ridiculists is reading the very long, rambling post of a college-age asexual who doesn't know why two people would sleep in the same bed.

I just revisited Today's Progress Was Yesterday's Form Field; I had totally forgotten about Lemon's "angry dumbass" voice at 54:17.  It's absolutely brilliant and needs to appear more often.

I'm pretty sure that he also used it when reading some creationist thing, but I can't remember which episode that was in. If I Could Turn Back Time, I'd Still Chop You in Half, and it sounds better there, too.
