I really hate Thoreau. I hate people who think they understand Orwell enough to be critical of him almost as much.

I'm so upset that any of these people are over the age of 18.

I was curious about that Miranda Reads person(?)'s other reviews and I find this one so emblematic.

Like, is this a baby? Did a baby make an account and start reviewing books? How do you approach literature like this and think you enjoy it? Consume Content

I looked at the document at work today and I'm not even sure I'm gonna be able to handle listening to the episode, because I am already angry at Miranda Reads. Like... does she? Does she at all? It's like the person who spends the entire movie asking their friends "who's that guy?" every time a new character comes on screen tried to undertake media criticism, except somehow less even than that?

It is awesome that dumping on stuff and making people angry is the best way to drive engagement on basically every social media platform.

I read one Great Gatsby knock off novel that was really bad where Nick was a trans man. I can't remember what it was called, but it was so poorly written. I'd rather read actual Great Gatsby. Y'all have reminded me of that.

Self Made Boys by Anna-Marie McLemore? I was actually thinking about that book when we were recording, haha. I actually haven't read it, but I've read another book by them (Venom and Vow) where my review boiled down to 'it's not great but it's nice to be at a point in YA literature where queer stories are so common that a subpar one doesn't weigh down the good ones'.

From what I can tell, they are a non-binary Latine person who is married to an Irish transman and they have at least three books that are about non-binary Latine people who are in relationships with Irish transmen. Write what you know, I guess...

Absolutely infuriating content, but also a great episode.

The guy who "read" Crime and Punishment and complained about not knowing Raskolnikov's motivations somehow missed the first 70 pages of the novel.

I don't think I've ever been so irate when listening to an episode.

No shit, 1984 is a DOWNER? well, I have no idea why it could have been written like that.

Also that epilogue.

Did they even read the book?????????

This fucking image and the phrase "Ye Olde Bois" keeps assaulting my brain a couple times a day for no earthly reason. Thanks, I hate it.

These people would all insist there are only four lights, not out of defiance but because they genuinely don’t understand why someone is trying to tell them there are five.
