Songs about things on the internet and terrible people

After years of not writing any songs because I lacked inspiration, I've been using topics from the internet (and The F Plus) as subject matter and I've been cranking songs out. Synthesizer V has also been critical so I can skip the whole tedious procedure of tracking vocals in a closet and not being happy with the final result.* At this point I've got songs about Starseeds, nice guys, conspiracy theorists, the Mandela Effect, toxic Etsy Witches, monkey moms, and even a ballad about wanting to get romantically involved with a well known cryptid. I like to write songs with unreliable/toxic narrators.

You could probably call these indie/synth pop with lots of harsh techno influence in the production. Maybe New Wave? I like in your face production so there's lots of synths, 90s-00s ROMplers, drum machines, and a little electric guitar here and there.

I posted a new song this week entitled Jealous of a Stadium. I was thinking of doing a pop-punk inspired production but ended up sticking to my typical bombastic synth-pop style. This one is inspired by that lady who was in love with a drill from the Object of My Desire episode Ceci n'est pas un drill episode of Extra Credit. Written from the perspective of the partner of someone with an interest in large man-made structures, it's about the difficulty her interest in a local stadium causes and includes a long list of various massive things which was very fun to put together.

I’ve been cooking again in the studio. I updated the mixes and made some small arrangement tweaks to most of my tracks. I also have a few new tracks on the way.

First up is Novel for a Stranger which is inspired by the poster who wrote a novel for a stranger and insisted it wasn’t creepy to solicit feedback on it featured in The F Plus episode Jerks Off Jerking Off. This one is from the perspective of the novel writer who is definitely creepy.

This is uptempo pop rock. The production is guitars and bass and drum set. This is electric guitars and ROMplers for everything else.

Here’s a New Age/90s Warp Records inspired song written from the perspective of someone who is upset about no longer being allowed to swim with dolphins. It’s called Owner of the Ocean.

I haven't been timely about updating this so here's a bunch of new songs! I have also made some tweaks to some of the older tunes. I also decided I didn't like M-Mmmm! all that much so I'm now releasing songs as M. Poster.

First up is Not Vanilla a triphop (maybe???) inspired ballad about someone finding their soulmate on a fetish forum. This is my first DAW production since I got hooked on outboard gear.

This is another DAW produced track and it's about Roko's Basilisk which I learned about from this episode of Ephemera. It is called Basilisk and I would describe it as dark college rock (maybe???).

This one is Victim and Villain. It's about someone playing the victim in an online argument after doing something creepy. It has what I would describe as whimsical synthpop production but who knows.

This is my first track using the new version of Synthesizer V and my recently acquired Ensoniq ESQ-M which is my new favorite synth. This is one is primarily inspired by Extra Credit #143. Very slow work day so I'm posting these songs I finished recently.

This one is (Your Boyfriend Sucks) It Should Be Obvious which is another uptempo synth pop production. It's about being tired of hearing about a friend's shitty boyfriend. This features ESQ-M on the main synth line and Proteus FX providing three different parts (the organ, the goofy orchestra in the first verse, and the wacky synth lead at the end). Drums are from my Roland Bass & Drums.

I also posted Kids Online which is to me has the vibes of a spacy stripped down late 80s fusion ballad mixed with some country and western in the verses. It tells the story of a chronically online man having a moment of clarity about how he spends his time. This has ESQ-M providing the bubbly pads, Proteus 2000 handling the electric piano, and some tubular bells/timpani goofiness from the Proteus FX. Drums are mostly from my Roland Bass & Drums with stick clicks in the intro and all of the rim hits from the Proteus 2000 because the rim hits are too quiet on the Roland. This is also the first time I am using the Synthesizer V2 voice Liam which came with my V2 license. He provides one of the layers in the pre-chorus.

Back with a few new tracks! Two are alternate versions of existing tunes and two brand new.

First up is a Garage House remix of one of my older tunes, The Architect, which is itself a rework of a much older tune from my era of dance songs about being depressed.

I also posted an alternative version of my toxic Etsy Wiccan breakup song, JPEG of a Black Candle. It's got a sort of chill mambo vibe as a contrast to the harsh production of the original. This features my newly acquired Roland Integra 7 on drums and piano and also the EP, I think. Proteus 2000 handles the bass and this has some E-SQM also because that thing is the best.

For new tunes, first is The Ritual inspired by the reading in The F Plus Episode 243 where the guy boils his semen to fight chemtrails. I hadn't listened to it very recently but it's a pretty memorable reading for a number of reasons. This is a up-tempo post-punk thing because that's what I've doing lately. It's got Integra 7 on drums, Proteus 2000 on bass, some E-SQM pads, and some other stuff. Electric guitar by yours truly.

Last one for today is Is it All Just Pretend? which is very much inspired by the Reddit post shared here by Raradra which really stuck with me. I've been trying to use this concept for awhile and I'm happy with what I landed on. This is another up-tempo indie-rock/post-punk tune. This also has Integra 7 drums, Proteus 2000 bass, some E-SQM because it is the best and some electric guitar by me.

I'm still at it so here's a new one I'm proud of called Parasocial Fantasy and you can guess what this one is about. This is indie-pop rock I guess. This is another Integra 7 heavy track with the Integra on drums and a very slick sounding organ. The main synth line is my beloved E-SQM and I'm pretty sure this has Proteus 2000 on the bass because that usually fills in on bass because it's got some great bass waveforms.

This one is some sort of alt/indie pop called Sold as a Curio. It features Integra 7 drums and bass, some warbly piano waveform goodness from my trusty ESQM, Proteus 2000 on ROMpler choir, and a goofy orchestra courtesy of my Proteus FX. This one is from the perspective of someone selling snake oil online and the chorus is based on the standard woowoo disclaimer. It has references to a few F Plus subjects including Luxamor from Creepy Hollows suggesting you start with small purchases and Quantum Man's cancer killer which is definitely not for medical use.

To commemorate ChatGPT 4o being deprecated here's a retro ballad version of Post-Update Blues which is somehow perpetually relevant. This is in a triple meter as opposed to the original and I went for a Wall-of-Sound style production. This is produced entirely in Ableton Live 12 with instruments primarily from Ableton Live Suite and Ableton's Session Drums which still sound pretty good to me. This uses the latest Synthesizer V update and the new Choir voice banks that I'm not entirely happy with (the pronunciation is very ESL) but layered spreads on a single track is a huge time-saver.

These are some kind of weird pop. These all have a lot of Rompler sounds with lots of Integra 7, Proteus 2000, and a few parts from my trusty ESQ-M (which I kept writing as E-SQM but it's a rackmount ESQ-1) which started making noise and likely needs it's power supply capacitors replaced so it is out of the rack currently. Please pray for my ESQ-M. I hate unsoldering components so god damn much so I've been putting off buying the replacement capacitors.

Here's a song about loosh called Loosh inspired by the Prison Planet episode. I'm pretty sure the trilly flutey bit is a Proteus FX patch.

This one is A Secret Sign. I can write riffs and structures faster than I can come up with concepts and melodies so for this one I sourced the lyrics from one of the Schuylkill notes. It's mostly a big list of brand names, organizations, and symbols but it was fun stringing them together to make phrases.

The last one for today is Her Giant Feet a song inspired by the Giantess episode, specifically the bit about telling your partner about your giantess fetish.

Hilariously enough my videos generally have less than 50 views and this one has 300+.
