I watched American Psycho several years ago in an online movie chatroom and thought it was a funny black comedy. Recently rewatched it while properly paying attention to it and I can't believe how simple this movie is. I mean I get why it's meme-able, but if it were not for 4channers this thing would have just come and gone. It's just Crime and Punishment without the punishment. They really out there having their main character (that did Crime) say outright that their Punishment still eludes them at the end of the movie as if it wasn't obvious enough. I enjoyed Dafoe's character, it's just Porfiry Petrovich but, unlike in the book, he turns out to be comedically incosequential in the film's narrative. I wish I could say it's a smart movie but it's merely sharp, and it is pretty good for what it aims to do.

Castration Movie 1: Four and a half hour movie about trans women being fucking gross loser morons. Besides its length and the fact that it looks like shit, I keep flip-flopping between thinking whether it's accessible to cis people or not. On the one hand it is, it's watchable, but on the other certain things are written in such a way as to be meaningless unless you've gone through them, that is, unless you're trans yourself. The writing feels esoteric, and it is sometimes subtle, but just as often it is broad, and even trite at points. In one scene the protagonist is acting towards their friend like they are their substitute mother, and then they have to go ahead and say "It's like I'm your mom... or something..." Like cmon dude. There goes the "show don't tell." I remember that scene with coked-out Julianne Moore in Boogie Nights. Don't dumb this shit down. Overall, I'd say it feels more like an illustrated audio book than a movie proper, so. IDK. I enjoyed it, very good, I love seeing, all gonzo style, the main character gargling piss in her mouth then throwing up, licking gross guys' armpits, having gross unsexy sex, crying cause she wants to kill herself. Let her suffer more. Excited to watch the second one.

Free Willy: White kid goes through some indian spirit journey shit. Whole movie's color scheme is embedded in its sets, with only a couple scenes having hand-colorized frames for extra brilliant blues; this is a very blue/grey/yellow movie. It looks like a theatrical production rather than a realistic "out-in-the-world" film. The titular William has ADRd wailing and squealing noises to make him seem more like a puppy. Overall a surreal experience but quite funny for how the animal is basically written as this dumb aryan child's spirit guide. He's also like 9 years old but he's treated like he's 17. Truly bizzare.

Flipper ('96): Like Freenyrd Willyrd, Flipper is a cetaceous movie that is concerned with the propping up of the American mythos, though while Freemium Willium's is a psychomonster cockytic ordeal meant to brainwash the child viewer, Flipper is merely content with reproducing the movie aesthetics of old Hollywood without really trying hard to accomplish anything else. This means it's automatically better than Frill Will. It's just 60s schlock made in the 90s. Elijah Wood is cute, his love interest the bully girl from Casper is cute, Flipper is cute, the drunk australian uncle is nice and leathery. You can count the light reflectors in people's glasses in certain shots, which is really funny. This movie is shot to intentionally make it look like it was in black and white and got colorized after.

I also watched Bingo and Air Buddies, and Spooky Buddies, and probably some more animal movies for toddlers, but I have little to say about them.

Christopher Nolan's Odyssey adaptation was somewhat true to the actual story, which was wildly surprising to me, but what was more surprising is how well the entire movie worked despite some actors I (personally) think aren't very amazing being in it. The Circe scene in particular is one of the most uncomfortable depictions of her encounter with Odysseys's men that I've ever seen, and I fucking loved it. Also very poignant message for the mess the world is currently in. 10/10 movie

However, while watching it this fucking post I saw about someone seeing another dude yell "UHOH GUYS, LOOKS LIKE NOLAN HAS ANOTHER ACADEMY AWARD ON HIS HANDS" in a theater and being met with dead silence kept going through my head throughout the entire movie

Recently saw Repo Man at the arthouse theater. I'd seen it before, years and years ago on my now-spouse's cruddy thrift-store VHS copy, and I'd forgotten almost all of the actual plot, so this was a treat to rewatch. I really appreciate the differences in verbal registers between the different sets of characters here; the way that the suburban punks all talk like, well, snotty suburban kids even when they're doing crimes is just great.

The Terminator is a perfect movie.

Imagine what it was like watching that shit in 1984 and not knowing what a terminator is. I would have lost my goddamned mind.

Finally, Zack Cregger delivered on what Capcom fans have been clamoring for for decades. Now we just need to campaign for a Dino Crisis movie.

I really liked the new Resident Evil move. I also really enjoy the Paul W.S. Anderson Resident Evil movies in the same way I really enjoy the Underworld movies (incredibly stupid fun). This movie does what I wasn't sure was possible to do in film in recreating the feeling and tension of playing the games. I think it was the right call to make this a bit of a side story rather than trying to adapt the game stories.
