Usually when I drop references to obscure stuff, SOMEONE out there reacts knowingly. For this, though, I've had no such moment of shared clarity. I've discovered that this exists in my mind alone for some reason and I have to free myself of this burden.

So here it is: Lidsville, the Sid and Marty Krofft show about a kid who visits a magic land filled with anthropomorphized hats, and the villain is Charles Nelson Reilly.

the two minute theme song:
an episode of the show:

I asked my dad if he remembered this show, his comments were along the lines of:

"I do remember that. It wasn't very popular. He fell into a hat and became a... a super kid. It wasn't very popular. H R Puffenstuff..." and then he wandered away.

oh I know Lidsville. One of the least popular creations in the Krofftiverse, and that's saying something.

Didn't watch much of Lidsville but in the moment I was disappointed that it was not about trapping people in giant glass jars. Perhaps it's time to reevaluate...

It really is saying something! And of everyone here I expected you'd know it most of all.

What ranks lower than it out of curiosity? I want to know where Electra Woman and Dyna Girl rate compared to Charles Nelson Riley flying above a hat city.

Electra Woman and Dyna Girl is surprisingly decent. For my money the worst Krofft productions are:

THE LOST SAUCER: Did you ever want your Sid and Mary Krofft shows to tackle real-world issues like obesity and racism? Did you also want them to star Jim Nabors and Ruth Buzzi as time-traveling androids AND their futuristic creators? Did you also want them to have a "dorse?"

It's a big dog with a horse head.

D.C. FOLLIES: Hey let's let Sid and Marty do an American version of Spitting Image with Fred Willard as the only recurring human, but along with puppets let's have a human guest star every episode, and let one of those human guest stars be Freddy Krueger and another one be Santa Claus.

MAGIC MONGO: All of the dopey Krofft tween adventures with none of the interesting production design or weird performances from actors you know elsewhere, just Lennie Weinrib in a Hawaiian shirt holding his ears and making mouth noises for 16 episodes.

I honestly remembered liking Electra Woman and Dyna Girl. Doing hi-tech things like driving an electric car in the 70s. Glad to hear younger me had discerning Krofft taste.

And I'm extra glad I never had to encounter a "dorse" as a child.
